Vote-by-Mail Ballot's Voter's Certificate Facts

Tommy Doyle, Supervisor of Elections, wants to ensure the voters of Lee County have accurate information regarding Florida Election law's requirements for the Voter's Certificate on a Vote-by-Mail ballot return envelope.

  • Legislation passed in Florida in 2019 requires that the Vote-by-Mail ballot Voter's Certificate (on the return envelope) request the voter's email address, and home and mobile telephone numbers;
  • Under Florida law, it is not optional for the Supervisor of Election to request this information;
  • It is optional for the voter to provide any piece of the requested information;
  • The purpose of requesting this information is to ensure that, in the event the voter's signature is missing from the Voter's Certificate or if the signature on the certificate does not match the signature in the voter's record, that we can contact the voter and allow the voter to remedy the situation;
  • Additionally, the Supervisor of Elections is required to notify the voter of a missing signature or a signature mismatch by mail;
  • If there is an issue related to a missing signature or a signature mismatch on the voter's Vote-by-Mail ballot, the voter has until 5:00 p.m. the 2nd day AFTER the election (i.e., Thursday after the election) to cure the signature deficiency;
  • A voter can check the status of their Vote-by-Mail ballot by visiting lee.vote;
  • If there is an issue such as a missing signature or signature mismatch on the Vote-by-Mail ballot, it will be indicated on the voter's website profile record;
  • The voter's website profile record will provide them with information on how to obtain the instructions and forms necessary to remedy the situation;
  • The voter has until 5:00 p.m. the 2nd day AFTER the election (i.e., Thursday after the election) to submit the required affidavit and documentation.

If you require more information regarding a signature cure or a clarification about the status of your Vote-by-Mail ballot, please call 239-LEE-VOTE (533-8683).
